A Professional Bindery
featuring Book Restoration,
Book Repair and Hand Binding

Restor-A-Book's specialty is rebinding and restoring old books, hand Bibles (like you carry to church) and large family Bibles. We also bind thesis and dissertations, genealogy, church bulletins and hymnals, project papers and newspapers, small production runs, magazines and photo albums.

We repair old books, and try to save as much of the original book as possible to retain the value, we use the old sides, and when applicable, make a new spine and mount the old spine on top of new one to retain the original look. If the cover is too rotten to use, we can sometimes match the old cover. That is, make a new cover that looks like the old one. We cannot duplicate gold tooling but may have something similar to use.

We repair torn pages but cannot recreate missing words. We utilize fine Japanese tissue paper to mend/complete the torn page.

We often receive hand Bibles with flexible covers, but we cannot save the old flexible cover. We make a whole new cover and rebind the Bible.

We can lighten old newspaper clippings but we cannot remove the dark spots they leave on the paper pages.

All our materials, including glue is acid free and meets Library Binding Institute's specifications for book binding.

We make boxes for maps to music scores. All are special made to fit the material that goes inside. Some customers provide us with books that are too rotten to repair. In these case we make a box to store the book.

We make the following boxes:

  • Custom storage boxes to meet customer's specification and size.
  • Portfolio boxes (with ties). These are for music scores, maps and other large papers.
  • Box Pocket for maps, charts, and misc. papers.
  • Clamshell storage box (most popular) for books too brittle to bind.
  • Slipcase, spine and insert for rare books, small documents.

Restor-A-Book also makes court record books both with or without hubs.

Typical turn time is four to five weeks from time received.

We speak to Genealogy groups within driving distance, about how to bind their papers, which way the paper should lay and different styles of binding, for mileage cost only.
